Owen Wister Suite

Owen Wister Suite

As many historians have noted, "The Virginian" was the first great Western novel - and the author found many of his most striking characters among the cowboys and outlaws that he observed at the Occidental Hotel.

It is even said that Owen Wister actually wrote portions of "The Virginian" while staying in one of our best rooms at the Occidental.

In keeping with Wister's reputation as a lover of life's finer things, the Owen Wister Suite is furnished throughout with some of the most beautiful Victorian furnishings and fittings in the entire hotel. Everything in the bedroom — from the carved bed and matching dresser, to the private fireplace, to the wall coverings and crystal chandelier — harks back to the fabled "Gilded Age."

In the bathroom, the antique clawfoot tub and shower, and the other "conveniences" as well, are actually raised up on a pedestal (and life doesn't get any more "gilded" than that!)

We think that Mr. Wister would feel right at home. And we think that you will, too!
